Babcock is a key support partner to the Australian government in the design, supply and support of naval systems and a strategic partner with the Royal New Zealand Navy.
Australia
With 20 years experience in the Australian defence industry, Babcock is a market leader in the design, supply and support of naval systems, including:
- Submarine Weapons Handling and Launch Systems, where Babcock has over 35 years experience and is the Delegated Design Authority for all UK submarines Weapon Handling and Launch Systems.
- Torpedo Discharge Systems with a positive discharge system at the heart of which is the Air Turbine Pump (ATP). The ATP, in conjunction with our Programmable Firing Valve (PFV) technology delivers an optimised, quiet and flexible weapons discharge capability, enabling maximum salvo firing rate in a compact space envelope.
Babcock’s 70-strong Australian team also offers engineering support services, information and knowledge management, programme management, in-service support and specialist analysis.
New Zealand
Babcock is the only engineering company to enjoy a strategic partnership with the Royal New Zealand Navy. Through our joint venture we commercially manage the naval dockyard at Devonport, Auckland, a fully integrated mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering facility providing products and services to a broad range of customers around the world.
We undertake the majority of the programmed and un-programmed maintenance work for New Zealand naval vessels as well as providing services to other defence agencies such as Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat and Improvised Explosive Device Disposal, robot maintenance for the Army and calibration services for the Air Force. Any spare capacity is used for commercial work including the docking, survey and maintenance of commercial shipping operating around New Zealand and in the South West Pacific.
